Everyone of us has it in ourselves to become an Entrepreneur. Of course it is easy if your budget is massive, but the absolute skill is to build your business without massive funding (or maybe to level that you can repay and not end up working for your investors) or the need of a bank overdraft (in my opinion most Banks are not interested in the small business or the start ups). So go it alone.

  1. Do what you enjoy.  Personal satisfaction, financial gain.
  2. Take what you do seriously. You must truly believe in your business.
  3. Plan everything. Plan every aspect. Build habits.
  4. Manage money wisely. Lifeblood of any business is cash flow.
  5. Ask for the sale. All marketing and advertising is worthless if you cannot ask for the sale.
  6. It’s all about the customer. The customers will ultimately decide if you Win or Lose.
  7. Become a shameless self-promoter. If no one knows who you are, how can they find you? Become the “face” of the business.
  8. Project a positive business image. Not everyone has an elegant office or shop. Creativity, attention to detail creates a professional image.
  9. Get to know your customers. The most significant edge small businesses have over a larger one. Remember the smallest of detail about your customer.
  10. Level the playing field with technology. Really no one can tell the difference of working out of your bedroom to a major company by the technology.
  11. Build a top business team. To build an empire you need help.
  12. Become known as an expert. People will find you, purely because your’e known as the expert in your field.
  13. Create a competitive advantage. A better service, pricing, better returns policy, Customer service.
  14. Invest in yourself. Read business and marketing books, newsletters, forums – Get yourself dressed for business, Look good.
  15. Be accessible. How many top business are there and you cannot get to speak with the boss? Those awful telephone directing systems.
  16. Build a Rock Solid reputation. Never add your signature to rubbish. Honour your promises.
  17. Sell benefits. Sell the benefits of owning your product. Everything you do in your marketing is always about the sale.
  18. Get involved. Get out into the community, support a local charity, School Fetes, The Prince’s Trust.
  19. Grab attention. Daily promotional activities must end in putting money in your pocket. Do not waste your energy on things that will not.
  20. Master the Art of Negotiation. Perhaps the second most important item other than asking for the sale. Orchestrate a win – win every time.
  21. Design your work space for success. Project professionalism, Try to keep your office area away from your family space.
  22. Get and Stay organised. Establish a routine, Develop systems to assist you. Create a calendar, task lists.
  23. Take time off. Difficult I know. But a burnt out performer is not at their best tired. Reward yourself with a holiday.
  24. Limited the number of hats you wear. Ability to multitask. Take a look at next week, plan ahead. Delegate to others. Don’t take on too much.
  25. Follow up constantly. Constant contact, follow through. Turns potentials into customers. Retain those customers.
